Sigourney Weaver
She’s a great actress, literally and figuratively.
Tall in size (1m82) and tall in talent (awarded at the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, etc.).
The first time I saw her was in the cult Alien, the eighth passenger by Ridley Scott.
And it is in particular thanks to her size that she was chosen to play the character of Ripley!
Ripley was originally supposed to be a male character. But when director Ridley Scott saw Sigourney Weaver, this very tall, slender woman with a tomboyish look and a strong character, he decided that it would be her, Ripley!
Ellen Ripley is also one of the first “girl power” characters in the history of cinema. For once, she is not the fragile woman who needs to be saved by a man from the clutches of a cruel creature. Not only does she save herself but she is also the only survivor!
Subsequently, Sigourney Weaver reprized the role of Ellen Ripley in Aliens; Alien 3; Alien, resurrection.
In this last film of the saga , his character who died at the end of the film Alien 3, comes back to life thanks to cloning.
And just like the previous opuses, Sigourney Weaver delivers a remarkable, memorable performance. Only she can play Ellen Ripley, or rather clone number 8, this woman who is no longer completely human, who gave birth to a monster and who keeps traces in her body which has become very powerful, all like that of aliens…
And among all the films in which she starred in the Alien saga , here is my favorite image: Ellen Ripley with her cat Jonesy.
Perhaps I have a very wild imagination, but I tell myself that this image could have inspired James Cameron in the creation of his Na’vi characters.
Yes, here is a very tall woman of 1m82 with a tabby cat. Imagine the fusion of these two living beings and here is a 3 meter blue extra-terrestrial with a feline appearance!
And as a reminder, James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver have already worked together since it was James Cameron who directed… Aliens, the Return.
It was therefore obvious for James Cameron to propose to Sigourney Weaver to play the role of Grace Augustine in Avatar , then of Kiri in Avatar, the Way of Water.
She was already used to the famous boxes!
Unfortunately, Grace Augustine’s character dies in the first part of Avatar .
No matter, a pirouette is found by the screenwriters to allow Sigourney Weaver to play again in the world of Pandora in the guise of Kiri, the child mysteriously born from the body of Grace Augustine’s avatar and who is adopted by Jake and Neytiri.
Aged over 70, Sigourney Weaver was therefore invited by James Cameron to play the role of a teenager. His performance is very successful, although aided by the prowess of special effects, combined with photographs from his youth to give Kiri’s youthful features.
We recognize his smile!
In short, this is why Sigourney Weaver is a very interesting actress. She has such a great aura in the skin of her characters that, when her characters die, she is brought back at all costs, thanks to cloning in Alien, the resurrection or thanks to a sort of immaculate conception in Avatar, the path of the water.
Sigourney Weaver returns and she adapts to the hazards! She is amazing! She exudes something divine!
